<p class="first-child "><span title="I" class="cap"><span>I</span></span> have an old laptop set up next to my home theater stuff.&#160; I believe there are others that likely have a similar setup.&#160; I primarily use mine to play music from a big external drive nice and loud through the best speakers in the house via a little USB sound “card” thingy. </p>
<p>So what, right?</p>
<p>Well, there’re a few things that are important (aside from the above):</p>
<ol>
<li>I’m lazy. <span id="more-938"></span></li>
<li>I stream music to my <a href="http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/Motorola-DROID-US-EN" target="_blank">Moto</a> <a href="http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&amp;action=viewPhoneDetail&amp;selectedPhoneId=5069" target="_blank">Droid</a> and other computers with <a href="http://http://www.subsonic.org" target="_blank">Subsonic</a>. </li>
<li>I access the machine remotely with <a href="http://www.logmein.com" target="_blank">LogMeIn</a>. </li>
<li>The laptop would often, inexplicably, enter the SLEEP state even though I had it set to NEVER enter sleep. </li>
</ol>
<p>That third point is especially problematic when I’m away from home and want to listen to some music, get some files, or test something remotely.&#160; Or, even hear some music over the nice loud speakers when I’m sitting right in front of them, initiated over good old Windows Remote Desktop from the laptop on my lap while I sit on the couch.&#160; BUT I CAN’T DO THAT IF THE DAMN MACHINE IS IN SLEEP MODE.</p>
<p> After much <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=%22system+standby%22+20+minutes+-%22energy+star%22" target="_blank">googling</a> and fellow geek consultation (I'm looking at you, Anthony and Leonard), I stumbled upon a loathsome (but useful) <a href="http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/XP/Q_25755267.html" target="_blank">Experts Exchange link</a>.&#160; Luckily I was able to view the solution without signing up for a lifetime of spam.</p>
<p align="left">I installed the following from <a href="http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm" target="_blank">this wacky site</a> that has all kinds of stuff that can seriously mess up your machine that’s running XP:</p>
<div align="center">
<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" width="267" align="center" border="1">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td valign="top" width="265">Disable Stand-by:&#160; <a href="http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/nostandbypu.vbs">Per User</a> or <a href="http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/nostandbyps.vbs">Per System</a></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top" width="265"><a href="http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/disablestandby.reg">Disable Standby</a></td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table></div>
<div align="left">&#160;</div>
<div align="left">I’m not sure which one worked, and I don’t care.&#160; All I know is that after months of aggravating narcolepsy, my old laptop now behaves the way I want it to.</div>
<h1><a href="http://www.norunningonthepooldeck.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/poweroptions.png"><img title="power options" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-bottom: 0px" height="218" alt="power options" src="http://www.norunningonthepooldeck.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/poweroptions_thumb.png" width="381" border="0" /></a> </h1>
<div align="left">YAY, problem solved.</div>

<p>Love seeing those nice sports calendars in your Google Calendar, but hate that you can't sync them over to BlackBerry or Android?&#160; Yahoo Sports calendars is the solution. </p>
<p><span id="more-847"></span></p>
<ol>
<li>Get yourself over to <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/" target="_blank">Yahoo! Sports</a>.<br/><br/></li>
<li><img title="yahoo-graybar" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="71" alt="yahoo-graybar" src="http://www.norunningonthepooldeck.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/yahoograybar.png" width="166" align="right" border="0" />Find the sport you're looking for in the gray bar towards the top (next to &quot;Home&quot;) and click on it. <br/><br/><br/></li>
<li><img title="yahoo-teams" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="62" alt="yahoo-teams" src="http://www.norunningonthepooldeck.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/yahooteams.png" width="187" align="right" border="0" /> Hover over the Teams dropdown and select your favorite team (<em>Yankees, of course</em>).<br/><br/><br/></li>
<li><img title="yahoo-scoresschedule" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="52" alt="yahoo-scoresschedule" src="http://www.norunningonthepooldeck.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/yahooscoresschedule.png" width="206" align="right" border="0" /> Click Scores &amp; Schedule from the gray bar under the team name.<br/><br/><br/><br/></li>
<li><img title="yahoo-addtocal" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-bottom: 0px"  alt="yahoo-addtocal" src="http://www.norunningonthepooldeck.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/yahooaddtocal.png" width="103" align="right" border="0" /> Click Add to Calendar, then Google Calendar.<br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/></li>
<li> You’ll be redirected to Google Calendar and presented with the last step.<img title="gcal-addcal" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-bottom: 0px" alt="gcal-addcal" src="http://www.norunningonthepooldeck.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/gcaladdcal.png"border="0" /></li>
</ol>
<p><br/><br />
The newly added calendar should now be available to sync in the BlackBerry Google Sync app, and in the Android Calendar app.<br />
<br/><br/><br />
<strong>Update: This method is not working for me as of 5/30. My attempt to contact <a href="https://twitter.com/googlecalendar">@googlecalendar</a> will likely go unanswered.</strong><br />
