Mmmm, gingerbread…

There’s a nice little writeup over at  Talk Android that describes how to use a Java app written by an XDA-developers forum member.

I simply followed the directions in the howto and did an alt-printscreen to get the screenshot over there on the right.

Simple, quick, and free!

Including bike routes and places sharing (finally!).

I have an old laptop set up next to my home theater stuff.  I believe there are others that likely have a similar setup.  I primarily use mine to play music from a big external drive nice and loud through the best speakers in the house via a little USB sound “card” thingy.

So what, right?

Well, there’re a few things that are important (aside from the above):

1. I’m lazy.
2. I stream music to my Moto Droid and other computers with Subsonic.
3. I access the machine remotely with LogMeIn.
4. The laptop would often, inexplicably, enter the SLEEP state even though I had it set to NEVER enter sleep.

That third point is especially problematic when I’m away from home and want to listen to some music, get some files, or test something remotely.  Or, even hear some music over the nice loud speakers when I’m sitting right in front of them, initiated over good old Windows Remote Desktop from the laptop on my lap while I sit on the couch.  BUT I CAN’T DO THAT IF THE DAMN MACHINE IS IN SLEEP MODE.

After much googling and fellow geek consultation (I'm looking at you, Anthony and Leonard), I stumbled upon a loathsome (but useful) Experts Exchange link.  Luckily I was able to view the solution without signing up for a lifetime of spam.

I installed the following from this wacky site that has all kinds of stuff that can seriously mess up your machine that’s running XP:

Love seeing those nice sports calendars in your Google Calendar, but hate that you can't sync them over to BlackBerry or Android?  Yahoo Sports calendars is the solution.

1. Get yourself over to Yahoo! Sports.
   
   
2. Find the sport you're looking for in the gray bar towards the top (next to "Home") and click on it.
   
   
   
3. Hover over the Teams dropdown and select your favorite team (Yankees, of course).
   
   
   
4. Click Scores & Schedule from the gray bar under the team name.
   
   
   
   
5. Click Add to Calendar, then Google Calendar.
   
   
   
   
   
   
6. You’ll be redirected to Google Calendar and presented with the last step.

The newly added calendar should now be available to sync in the BlackBerry Google Sync app, and in the Android Calendar app.



Update: This method is not working for me as of 5/30. My attempt to contact @googlecalendar will likely go unanswered.

• Nice, as in it’s just $30 for each of three regions in the US.
• Nice, as in Engadget says you can buy additional areas for $15 each.
• Nice, as in you don’t have to spend $100 on the full maps package when all you do is drive around the neighborhood.

Nice-for-iPhone, as in I’m sure glad I get all this for free on my Droid. ZING!
